What is Plover?Plover is a lightweight framework for integrating distributed systems. At a high-level, it conceptualizes synchronous, request-response cycles in client-server communication as method invocation on remote entities. Plover defines a complete delivery channel that includes a communication layer with server-side hosting and client-side invocation environments.
Prerequisites and LimitationsPlover is a 100% pure Java implementation and is expected to have very few operational limitations. The product has been built and tested using JDK 1.4.2 from JavaSoft, on Microsoft Windows 2000/XP platforms. Plover is expected to function properly for any operating system for which an implementation of the target JDK version (1.4.2) exists.Network discovery in Plover requires that all servers be on the same network and that the network itself does not limit the transmission of IP multicast packets. About the Latest ReleaseThe 0.1.x versions of Plover has reached end-of-life and support for the same has been discontinued. Henceforth, the base version of Plover should be taken as 0.2.0.This version of Plover introduces significant changes and improvements over the 0.1.x series. Plover is now available as an embeddable framework only and supports both RMI and HTTP transports. Configuration files have also been suitably altered.
